New Projects
M-14 powered DR-109
Hybrid Spar
During the DR-109 and DR-108
design efforts, the Vendenyev engine
became well known as a light weight,
inexpensive powerplant suitable for
aerobatics. The DR-109 basic outline
was adapted to this engine. AAW
intends to follow through on this effort
in the near future, using the
knowledge gained during the design
of Peaches to simplify the redesign
effort and maximize standardization of
parts.
Based on years of wing building and
wood parts fabrication experience
from Bill Scheunemann, AAW is
taking a new look at the customary
wing spar. Concerned about the
fracture mechanics facing the
composite unlimited akro wings, and
tired of losing friends (or potential
friends) to catastrophic wing failure,
we're in the test phase on a spar that
gives us the strength and light weight
of a composite with the fatigue
resistance we already expect from
wood.
Fire Bottle Systems
As aerobatic pilots and friends of the
aerobatic community, AAW and our
suppliers are focused on making the
sport as safe as possible. Based on
an existing simple fire bottle
installation in the owner's personal
airplane, we want to market an
inexpensive, reliable, and lightweight
fire extinguisher system that you will
use with one hand (while you keep
flying with the other), that protects you
and your passenger while also getting
the fire out in the engine
compartment. We are going to make
this system affordable for everyone
flying akro.
Then we want you to install it.
